This one got abandoned because at some point I realized I accidentally painted Prince looking like he was deeply disappointed in the service at an airport Chili’s.

The final product, which was sent to Miami, was a man much more at peace.

There are parts of this painting that I do genuinely love: the looseness, the unfinished edges, the blue jacket arriving out of basically nowhere, the hair.

But eventually I reached that sacred moment in the artistic process when you have stared at the same six square inches for so long that you can no longer tell whether you’re making art or simply moving expensive paste around while becoming less emotionally stable.

So I quit.

Prince remains here, forever unfinished, rolling his eyes toward heaven as if even he knows I should have stopped three hours earlier.
